Dental Implants Shreveport
You CAN eat with confidence again!
With dental implants from Shreveport dentist Dr. Mckenzy Boyd, you can get back your normal life and be confident and carefree while eating, speaking, laughing and enjoying life. Dental implants are replacement teeth that look, feel and work like natural teeth. You can bite, chew, floss, brush and laugh with a dental implant just like you would your natural teeth.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are root replacements. They are small, titanium rods that are placed beneath your gums during what is normally routine oral surgery. After placement, the implants fuse to the natural bone of your jaw, acting as artificial tooth roots. Once this is accomplished a custom crown fits over the top of these titanium rods “roots,” so that you have a natural-looking, naturally functioning tooth replacement.
Why would I choose dental implants over bridges or dentures?
No other tooth replacement option has proven to be as functionally effective and durable for Shreveport residents as dental implants. Dental implants act as an individual tooth and therefore no other teeth are affected. Bridges, for example, require preparing the tooth in front of and behind the missing space for the restoration. Dental implants currently have the highest success rate in dentistry. In many cases, they may be the only logical choice if you want to be able to go on eating, talking and living as you are accustomed to with natural teeth.
Why would I need a dental implant?
Dental implants are needed when tooth loss occurs due to tooth decay, root canal failure, periodontitis (gum disease), trauma to the mouth or excessive wear and tear.
Some people choose to do nothing about the space left by a missing tooth however that is not a recommended option for your health or your quality of life. Missing tooth spaces can cause other teeth to shift and this affects the overall bite. People who have missing teeth can feel self-conscious when smiling or talking. Also, biting irregularities caused by tooth loss can impair eating habits, which can lead to secondary health problems like malnutrition. Dental implants from Boyd Family Dentistry in Shreveport provide a simple remedy with proven results.
What are the advantages of dental implants versus bridges or dentures?
All three options are forms of oral surgery, but implants are stronger and more durable than bridges and dentures. Dental implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss. Also, implants may be used in conjunction with other restorative procedures for maximum effectiveness. For example, a single implant can serve to support a crown replacing a single missing tooth. Implants can also be used to support a dental bridge for the replacement of multiple missing teeth, and can be used with dentures to increase stability and reduce gum tissue irritation.
